Not my first choice

Not sure what the intent of this book was, but getting a service up and running quickly using MS products
didn't appear to be it.
IMHO the authors took a somewhat convoluted subject and made it almost unworkable by adding in
3rd party tools and techniques which had nothing to do with the ultimate goal (building a web service)
and simply clouded the issue for me.
After getting thru half the book, I just went to the MS site and started hunting thru that and looked for online
examples and resources mainly in codeproject and stackoverflow..
A simple step by step for a simple service would have been nice to find in book form, but I eventually
found what I needed with online examples...this book however was not it for me

Not clear and concise

In a nutshell, this book has way too much about stuff that isn't Web API. I do realize that Web API is not a technology to be used in a vacuum, that it is part of an integrated whole product, but this book seems to go on forever about using Ninject, nHibernate, log4net, and other technologies. No doubt these technologies are important, but if I wanted to learn Ninject, I would have bought a book about Ninject.

Also, this book is printed in small text with quarter-inch margins, so even tho it is listed as having 250 pages, it would probably fill 400 the way most tech books are printed. If you don't have good vision, I hope you have reading glasses.

In short, if you want a clear, concise book about ASP.net Web API, this isn't it.

Web API explanation and more!

Well laid out and easy to follow. I had previously used Web API for the first time on a project before i found this book. After reading this, it would have made that project a lot easier and better designed. Not only does it give a good insight into Web API through examples that build upon each other as the chapters progress, it also introduced different ways to implement other technologies not specifically related to Web API such as NHibernate,Ninject, and AutoMapper. I have used things like NHibernate in the past in MVC and other types of projects, but this book showed what i thought to be a better way to manage NHibernate sessions through Attributes on the controllers. Likewise how to wrap AutoMapper for cleaner mapping definitions. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with the content in this book not only from a Web API perspective but also from an overall design perspective. This will most likely be a book that i reference frequently when working on new projects.

Incredible content! Social media tips for A.D.D. Biz Owners!

This is an outstanding book. Worth 10x the price paid.

Please disregard the reviews that say this is for "newbies" or "I already knew most of the stuff in the book"... Nonsense--I disagree wholeheartedly with these statements.

Not only are the tips very in-depth and meaty, but you can digest them quickly.
Sure, out of 500, you're going to know some of them if you've stepped foot in the social media ring at all, but I'll bet at least 70-80% of them you won't know, or hadn't thought of. The only way someone would know most of these is if they had written a book themselves.

I'm pretty social media savvy, not an expert but not a novice, and most of the stuff in this book I hadn't thought of or didn't know. There's stuff in here about YouTube & Facebook you would NEVER figure out without someone telling you, as well as the other networks. Its a huge value-add for me.

Here's the really good thing - if you're an Attention Deficit Disorder Biz Owner (like me) with tons to do and a distraction around every corner, this is the book for you. You can pick it up and in 30 seconds read a few tips. Unlike other books, you don't have to even finish a chapter or 5 pages straight to get something out of it. So for people with very little time and lots on their mind but need a kick in the pants to get moving, this is a must-have.

I've started taking notes in the back of the book, and in the margins in each chapter I've written a "Done?" check-box so I can check off each applicable tip as I've implemented it. Some are very simple, you can implement the tip in 30 seconds, others (like making an online vid or upgrading your profile) will take longer... but almost every tip I've read has been pure gold.

The best online marketing book I have bought in a long time.

UPDATE 12/14/13:
Still my favorite marketing media book and am still getting things out of it. Regretfully I don't have the full time hours to delve completely into every chapter and implement the hundreds of suggestions, but I have done at least 15-20 or so and all were worthwhile and made a difference. And, as I mentioned before, many of these were obscure technical tweaks that I could NEVER FIGURE OUT on my own without a how-to book like this. Example is some of the Facebook & YouTube tweaks with little features you didn't know were there.
Can't recommend this book enough.
The best part about it is you can just pick it up and read a page or two and get something out of it without having to take in a whole chapter. I receive no accolades or anything from the author, just honestly stumbled upon this book on Amazon as you did, and am telling you to pick this one up--it's a winner.

Great Guide For Anyone Looking To Grow Their Audience Or Customer Base

I have to disagree with the review that said this book was mainly for newbies. I've been working with blogs, websites and social media on a professional level for years and read any and every book on the subjects and still found this guide to be extremely helpful. I initially borrowed the book with my Prime membership to just take a skim through, but purchased it right after I finished reading it this week.

I think this book will benefit anyone from new and seasoned site owners, niche bloggers, company managers and more. You can take the information laid out and tweak to fit your individual business and customize the tips and strategies to help your specific goals.

It stresses to site/business owners how important social media is to help their business thrive and lays out specific ways to make that happen! It also gives them a realistic estimate of how much time it can take to successfully engage an audience through the dozens of social media platforms. The book gives detailed guidance through each platform. It doesn't go above a newbie's head, yet doesn't bore an experienced professional.

I'd recommend this book to anyone as a valuable resource on the subject - no matter what their level of knowledge with social media marketing.

Author doesn't follow his own advice or give info as promised.

I bought this book to get the latest Facebook template. After buying it and going to the section that is suppose to contain the link, it just brought me back to the same page that tells you to buy the book. What a let down.
Also, the book states the importance of answering emails and messages in a timely manner (3hrs to 24 hrs). I wrote the author to the email he provided to let him know that I couldn't access the template I was looking for. I never received an answer.

There are a few helpful tips, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but it is info I could of found online for free with a Google search.
