I thoroughly enjoyed this book, a compilation of short stories about zoos, zoo animals and birds, and their keepers. The book includes wonderful information about the denizens of the zoos and how they are cared for. It is good to know that such dedicated people work in and manage our zoos. Their relationships with and tender care for the animals is inspiring. Kristin Hilton has managed very descriptive and well written tales which are riveting. They are funny, scarey, informative, and educational. Truly a great read. This book will surely enhance your knowledge of zoos, and zoo dwellers, as well as what happens "behind the scenes".

If you wish to know and understand the zookeeping experience, get this book. It's that simple. Zoo Goofs is not only the perfect book for the young, curious about the business, but also a behind-the-scenes expose for anyone who's ever wondered what being a zookeeper's all about: stories told around the break-table and from the author's own experience. These are snippets you won't find in the books by zoo vets and directors - hard and gritty, sometimes wonderous, other times disturbing. The true passion comes through, not to mention the author's concern and empathy for each individual animal. There's a billion zookeeper stories out there and Kristin's given you quite a bundle. I'm an ex-keeper who cringed and smiled, traveling down the commons of memory lane.

a zoo keeper's world

I read this book with delight and much interest because I worked as a zoo keeper for more than fifteen years. There are several entertaining stories that every reader young or old will enjoy. And what makes them so fascinating and intriguing is the story telling itself. The author did an excellent job in setting the scene and giving the reader a bit of knowledge beforehand so the actual account was clear and meaningful.
Whether you are interested in working with exotic animals in the future or if you just enjoy reading a good book then Zoo Goofs won't disappoint. It would make for a great gift.
