You simply cannot go wrong buying any of Brian Tracy's works. Whether it be books, Cd's, DVD's, audio programs or training in any form, he is an acknowledged master who has "been there and done that." From a nobody with nothing, to a multi, multi-millionaire, he teaches you what really works, not just theory or conjecture as so many others do. He has changed more lives for the better than you can possibly imagine. I know...he changed mine!

I selected one of the insights in The Art of War because I was again reminded of it while sharing Brian Tracy's thoughts about negotiation, especially what he shares in Chapter 12, "Preparation Is the Key." The titles he selected for the 21 chapters could serve as a foundation or framework when preparing for a negotiation, whatever its nature and extent may be. Tracy correctly views negotiation with a wide lens. It could involve the terms and conditions of employment, purchasing a home or a vehicle, or convincing enough people to support a course of action. It could also involve a teenager and her or his parents discussing curfew or members of a jury struggling to reach a verdict. I agree with Tracy: "Life may be viewed as one long, extended negotiating session, from the cradle to the grave. Negotiation never stops." It really doesn't. "Your ability to negotiate successfully is essential to your success in all your interactions with other people." Dead on.

These are the chapter titles that I think express especially important principles:

19. "The Walk-Away Method"

I have read and reviewed most of the 50+ books that Brian Tracy has written. Inevitably, he recycles information, insights, and counsel in many of them because (a) their relevance is multi-dimensional and (b) he possesses a remarkably wide and deep knowledge of the business world, an acumen that enables him to make connections and suggest similarities that only a few business thinkers would recognize. He also possesses world-class reasoning and writing skills. Now he is in the process of producing a series of volumes (each less than 100 pages) in "The Brian Tracy Success Library." I have now read and reviewed two and will read and review others in months to come.

These are brief in length but by no means "small" books. On the contrary, they offer a unique abundance of material that will be of substantial value to those now preparing for a business career or have only recently embarked upon one. For experienced managers, these volumes offer helpful reminders of business fundamentals that are too frequently. Amazon now sells this book for $8.96. How much is a helpful idea worth? There are hundreds in this book. You do the math. However, please keep in mind Thomas Edison's observation: "Vision without execution is hallucination."

Great dict - great choice

This dictionary is super cool, searching my new words will be easier more than ever. I can also get access to the dict online. I remember the first time I studied English, I also have to use Eng-Eng dict. So with English, I have Oxford advanced learner's dictionary and German will be with this one. Love this!!!

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LONG HAUL is book number 9 in the series. The author, Jeff Kinney, continues his insightful wit, accompanied by cutting edge (if not exactly award-winning) artwork. The artwork is a cross between a Gary Larson cartoon and Scott Adams of Dilbert fame.

If you remember where we left Greg Heffley the last time we saw him, Greg was dealing with losing the attention of his best friend, Rowley Jefferson. That book ended with Greg leaving Rowley Jefferson hanging around the "Find a Friend station." In this installment, THE LONG HAUL, the Heffley's go on vacation. But it's a vacation like none you've ever seen before. Get ready, because in this vacation we will NOT be traveling with Ward and June Cleaver. This vacation does NOT include Wally and the Beaver.

Right off the bat, the Heffley's journey takes a bad turn. Naturally, they are stuck in traffic for a long time. Alas, dad gets really nervous around high bridges: "The bridge to the beach was one of those kinds that's really high above the water, and I'm sure dad wasn't looking forward to being stuck on it for the next half hour." But that's not the worst part. Somehow, a seagull ends up INSIDE the Heffley car, flying around, looking for Cheeseits. It's complete mayhem! Perhaps the best sketch in the entire book is the illustration of the seagull flying around the car.

Here's WHY this book is so funny (and why all the books in the series are so funny): The author writes about what ACTUALLY HAPPENS (or comes close to happening) in our family trips. The reason we laugh so hard at these diary entries is that we see OURSELVES here. The accounts hit very close to him--at least for me.

√ All in all, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LONG HAUL is a hilarious, fun read. The artwork, by itself, would not win any awards, but in conjunction with the text, it's excellent, and adds to the fun. Where does Jeff get the idea for drawing these bizarre creatures that pass as humans?

Hysterical!

this is not just a great kids book, it makes adults laugh too. I bought it today, downloaded it to my kids' kindles, they immediately read it, then they wanted me to read it to them also. I laughed out loud numerous times over the ridiculous situations in the book. I highly recommend this whole series to anyone who wants to get their kids to read.

Michael S. Kimmel is Professor of Sociology at SUNY at Stony Brook.� He is the author of Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men (HarperCollins, 2008) which was featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America and featured on over one hundred radio and newspaper and blog reviews.� His other books include Changing Men (1987), Men’s Lives(8th edition, 2009) Against the Tide: Profeminist Men in the United States, 1776-1990 (1992), The Politics of Manhood (1996), Manhood: A Cultural History (1996, 10th anniversary second edition, 2006), and The Gendered Society (3rd edition, 2008).� He co-edited The Encyclopedia on Men and Masculinities (2004) and Handbook of Studies on Men and Masculinities (2004).� He is the founder and editor of Men and Masculinities, the field’s premier scholarly journal, a book series on Gender and Sexuality at New York University Press, and edited the Sage Series on Men and Masculinities.� He lectures extensively in corporations and on campuses in the U.S. and abroad.� He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Amy Aronson, and their 10 year old son, Zachary.

After receiving his B.A. and M.A. from C.S.U. Chico, Michael Messner received his Ph.D. in Sociology at U.C. Berkeley.� He is professor of sociology and gender studies at the University of Southern California, where he has worked for 25 years.� His teaching and research focuses on gender and sports, men and masculinities, and gender-based violence.� In 2010, the USC Center for Feminist Research released the most recent update of his longitudinal study, Gender in televised sports.� He is the author of several books, including most recently It's all for the kids:� Gender, families and youth sports (California, 2009), and King of the wild suburb:� A memoir of fathers, sons and guns (Plain View Press, 2011). Messner is currently researching men who work with boys and men to stop gender-based violence.� In 2011, the California Women's Law Center honored him with its Pursuit of Justice Award, for his work in support of girls and women in sport.

The fourth edition of Kimmel and Messner's Men's Lives is an engaging anthology accessing the forefront of scholarship about diverse men and masculinities. Going beyond earlier texts and collections, Men's Lives now reflects the development of greater theoretical sophistication and coherence in a field once often represented as anecdote and generalization. It is not simply "good men's studies," it is good gender studies. An instructor's resource manual is available and provides relevant summaries, experiential learning exercises, and examination questions, plus key terms, films, and internet resources.

Kimmel and Messner: a critique of gender

While some reviewers seem to state that Kimmel and Messner are painting men in a particularly bad light, these reviews seem to miss the key points that the authors are trying to make: the problem is masculinity and the way men perform masculinity, not males themselves. Kimmel and Messner critique gender and all the stereotypes surrounding it to present a manual for understanding masculinity as a social construction. Some articles in this reader are less helpful than others but overall it is a great introduction to masculinity studies and I highly recommend it. The book presents a variety of men's voices while sadly leaving out men with disabilities and trans men. The book cities arenas of oppression and explains how men AND women contribute to a culture where oppressive masculinity is allowed to reign.

A great educational tool

Borrowed out my book to a friend who is just starting beekeeping, she used it in a presentation to her elementary class and to help her pre-teen son learn about honey-bee life. (And then ordered one for herself!) I use it with my grandson. A nice, well illustrated book on the full life cycle, job routine and importance of honeybees.
